Back to School Safety Tips

.) Find another child in the neighborhood with whom you can travel to school if you walk, ride a bike, or take the bus.

.) Always wait for the school bus far away from the street on the curb.

.) Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before you approach it.

.) When riding your bicycle always wear a helmet.

.) Respect the laws of traffic lights and stop signs.

.) When walking always take the same route and never take shortcuts unless you have your parent’s permission.

.) Don’t wear clothes or carry items with your name on the outside, and don’t be confused just because someone you don’t know calls out your name.

.) Don’t get into a car or go near a car with someone in it unless you are with your parents or trusted adult. Never take a ride from someone without checking first with your parents.

.) Use a backpack with wide, soft shoulders and padded back. Pack only the essential supplies to help keep the weight down.

.) Try to eat something healthy for lunch. Fresh fruit, salads, and water are much better choices than potato chips and soda; you’ll feel better and be able to concentrate better in class.
